Horticulture / Trees / 01: Broadleaf Tree
129 Miner, Henry 750 This tree is a Ginkgo, taxonomically named Ginkgo Biloba, that I purchased from the Californian e-business and tree nursery, The Jonsteen Company, on June 21st. For this tree, I decided to experiment and venture beyond my regular potting patterns, instead placing it delicately into a brilliant blue vase as its new home. The Ginkgo is of a considerable height and growth with a decent foliage about it. The tree appears to be at least two-years-old, although it is very notably difficult to tell as a result of its yellowing leaves and discolored trunk. Both of these factors previously noted came as a result of shipping damage, notably the dark environment the tree weathered through roughly a week of transport. Blue Palo Alto Plants and Things
Horticulture / Trees / 02: Evergreen tree
129 Miner, Henry 745 This tree is a Japanese Cedar that I received from the Californian tree nursery, The Jonsteen Company, on June 21st. Similar to many of my other trees, the Japanese Cedar is in a plastic terracotta pot of a reddish-orange color. The tree is of a strange shape relative to some of my other trees, notably the pines which remain very straight and columnar. Considering the sporadic growth it appears to have undergone this growth cycle, I believe it to be no older than two-years-old. It is also worth noting that it arrived with very minimal shipping damage and has grown wonderfully under my care. Blue Palo Alto Plants and Things
129 Miner, Henry 746 This tree is a Loblolly Pine that I purchased from the Californian tree nursery and e-business, The Jonsteen Company, and received on June 21st. As with the majority of my trees, I planted it in a reddish-orange plastic terracotta pot and in excellent Iowa topsoil. The tree is easily the tallest of those that I am showing this year, standing straight and columnar, and exhibiting at least two years of growth. Despite its incredible height, I don’t believe that the seedling is too much older than this estimation. Some browning on the needles was present at arrival and has persisted into today, as can be expected from only a month in my care. Blue Palo Alto Plants and Things
129 Miner, Henry 747 This tree is an Austrian Black Pine that I received from The Jonsteen Company, a Californian Tree Nursery, on June 21st. Separate from my other pots, the Austrian Black Pine stands tall in a blueish-green plastic terracotta pot. The tree seems to present at least two distinct years of growth with the possibility of a third in question. Significant browning of the needles was present at arrival and has persisted as a result of long-term shipping damage. Blue Palo Alto Plants and Things
129 Miner, Henry 749 This tree is a Whitebark Pine that I received from the Californian tree nursery, The Jonsteen Company, on June 21st. As with the majority of my other trees, the Whitebark Pine is in a plastic terracotta pot of a reddish-orange color. The tree is rather small and inversely pyramidal. Despite its stature, I do believe that it is into its second year of growth and is simply slower growing than the rest of those here which may also even be into their third or fourth years of growth. The tree arrived with minimal damage at the time and has grown nicely since that time. Blue Palo Alto Plants and Things
139 Thoren, Elizabeth 956 This tree is a Grand Fir. Henry Miner purchased the tree for me from the Californian e-business The Johnsteen Company, and have taken care of it since it arrived on June 21st. As with my Tulip Poplar, the Grand Fir is planted in a reddish-orange terracotta pot. The tree's age is difficult to determine, but I believe it to be around two-years old with six months or so of deviation. Upon arrival, the tree seemed in excellent condition, and such appearances have remained consistent up to the present as well. Blue Palo Alto Plants and Things
139 Thoren, Elizabeth 958 This tree is an Eastern White Pine. Henry Miner purchased this tree for me from the Californian e-business The Johnsteen Company, and have taken care of it since its arrival on June 21st. This tree is unique compared to the Grand Fir and Tulip Poplar, for it is planted inside of a plastic blue terracotta pot. The age of the tree is not entirely determinable, but my best educated guess is around two-years old with about six months of deviation. Once the tree was delivered, it was in exquisite condition, and has remained so up to today. Blue Palo Alto Plants and Things
Horticulture / Trees / 03: Other tree
139 Thoren, Elizabeth 957 This tree is a Tulip Poplar. Henry Miner purchased this tree for me from the Californian e-business The Johnsteen Company, and have taken care of it since it arrived on June 21st. As with my Grand Fir, the Tulip Poplar is planted inside of a reddish-orange terracotta pot. The tree’s age is difficult to determine, but I believe it is about two-years old with six months or so of deviation. Once the tree arrived, it seemed to be in exceptional condition, and such appearances have remained consistent to hold up until today as well. Blue Palo Alto Plants and Things
